Pre-Application Assessment & Preparation

PREP

  1.  One of the key components is to ensure that the surface is free from sealers, dirt, oils, glues and other contaminants.

A few methods for properly preparing the concrete are:

  1. Using a lower grit (16, 30) metal bond diamond tool on a single headed or planetary grinder with a vacuum and grinding dry. In order to accomplish this floor in ‘One Day”, dry grinding would be necessary.
    1. This is the primary method for prep used by Professionals.
    2.  Note: Water should not be used for prep. Insure floor and joints are ‘bone dry’ before coating
    3. Any repairs need to be done prior to prep.

2. Apply Poly 90 (or Poly85 Slow):

Mix the Poly by drill mixing. (1:1) ratio

Poly should be applied by pouring the product on the floor and using a flat or small notch (5-7 mil) squeegee and immediately back rolling with a ⅜” nap, 18” roller. Dip and roll methods can also be used when the floor is saw cut into small sections that make squeegeeing prohibitive. Approximate coverage with this method is 250 sqft per gallon

  1. Poly 90/85 Slow hangs out in the bucket better than on the floor. Only apply the amount of product that can be effectively squeegeed and backrolled adequately at a time.
  2. Add traction additive if desired when mixing.

*Video shows application with pigmented poly product, but works with application of clear poly products as well.

3. Apply Poly 90 (or Poly85 Slow) Top Coat: After the first coat has sufficiently set and is no longer tack free the second coat Poly 90/85 Slow can be applied.  If beyond the recoat window or microbubbling occurred screen and dry wipe prior to recoating. Note:  Never apply until the 1st coat is tack free.   Mix the Poly by drill mixing. (1:1) ratio

Poly topcoat is best applied by pouring the product on the floor and using a flat or small notch (5-7 mil) squeegee and immediately back rolling with a ⅜” nap, 18” roller. Top coats tend to lay out better with less chance of roller lines when using a squeegee and back rolling.

  3. Protect area from traffic until the coating has sufficiently dried (refer to data sheet for dry times)
