Step-by-Step Installation of Rookie Poly Solid Color

Pre-Application Assessment & Preparation

  1. PREP:  One of the key components is to ensure that the surface is free from sealers, dirt, oils, glues and other contaminants.  The floor should also have the proper profile.
    1. A few methods for properly preparing the concrete are:
      1. Using a lower grit (16, 30) metal bond diamond tool on a single headed or planetary grinder with a vacuum and grinding dry. This is the primary method for prep used by Professionals.
  •  Note: Water should not be used for prep. Insure floor and joints are ‘bone dry’ before coating
  • Any repairs need to be done prior to prep. Our Instant Medic Hard is the recommended repair material for cracks and spalls.

2. Apply Poly85 Slow pigmented:  Mix Poly85 Slow by drill mixing(1:1) ratio.  Mix in the proper amount of pigment (1 Poly Pigment colors 4 gallons of Poly 90/85 Slow).

Apply Poly to the floor by dipping and rolling out of a pan. Use a ⅜” nap, 18” roller cover.  Approximate coverage with this method is 250 sqft per gallon Larger floors can be accomplished by pouring the Poly on the floor and using a flat squeegee to spread the product and immediately backrolling.  Remember: Poly85 Slow hangs our better in the bucket and begins to set when it is on the floor.  Refer to data sheet for more information.

3. Apply Poly85 Slow Top Coat Pigmented: After the 1st coat of Poly 85 Slow  has sufficiently set and is no longer tack free and within the recoat window (typically 9-24 hours) the Poly 85 Slow topcoat can be applied.  Note:  Never apply until the 1st coat is tack free.  If the product is beyond the recoat window it must be screened before coating.

  1. Mix the Poly by drill mixing. (1:1) ratio
  2. Mix in the proper amount of pigment (1 Poly Pigment colors 4 gallons of Poly 90/85 Slow).
  3. Poly colored topcoat should be applied by pouring the product on the floor and using a flat or small notch (5-7 mil) squeegee and immediately back rolling with a ⅜” nap, 18” roller. Top coats tend to lay out better with less chance of roller lines when using a squeegee and back rolling. Approximate coverage with this method is 250-300 sqft per gallon
    1. Poly 85 Slow hangs out in the bucket better than on the floor. Only apply the amount of product that can be effectively squeegeed and backrolled adequately at a time.
    2. Add traction additive if desired when mixing.
    3. Protect area from traffic until the coating has sufficiently dried (typically a minimum 10-12 hours for light foot traffic. Temp. dependant)
